In today’s interconnected world, small businesses serve as the backbone of local economies and drive global innovation. Recognizing their significance, the SBAA International Small Business Summit emerged as a premier platform to celebrate and support small business. This biannual gathering fosters collaboration, shares best practices, and highlights the vital role of small businesses in shaping economies worldwide.
This collaboration is strengthened by the recent announcement that Cryptoloc will be supporting the 2023 International Small Business Summit as an official Sponsor. Recognised by Forbes as one of the 20 best Cybersecurity companies to watch in 2020, Cryptoloc is leading the charge in protecting Australian small businesses. The SBAA recently interviewed Cryptoloc Executive Chairman & Founder Jamie Wilson to find out why they have decided to support the summit, and what kind of legislative changes they would like to see in their industry to help support small business.
“Small businesses play a vital role as the backbone of our economy, and it’s imperative that they have easy and affordable access to effective cybersecurity tools.” Stated Jamie Wilson.
Cryptoloc is supporting the 2023 Summit as they are passionate about small business security, and uniquely understand the challenges that small businesses face when it comes to cybersecurity. They believe that every business, regardless of size, deserves to have access to secure communication solutions that protect their sensitive data from cyber threats. Small business security is at the forefront of Cryptolocs focus as a business, as they are the backbone of the economy and lead the way in moving our country forward.
SBAA CEO & Founder Anne Nalder is excited to have the support of Cryptoloc for the 2023 Summit saying, “Cryptoloc are leading Cybersecurity experts in Australia, and their involvement in the 2023 Summit will be vital for the improvement of the SMEs Sector.”
The SBAA International Small Business Summit aims to give a voice to small business in an official capacity. By providing businesses with the opportunity to discuss their challenges and obstacles, it creates a foundation for creating legislative recommendations aimed at targeting the most pressing issues for small business in each respective industry.
Cybersecurity Industry Issues:
Time and resources are major constraints for small businesses when it comes to cybersecurity. Small businesses often lack the time and expertise needed to effectively address cybersecurity challenges and may not have the financial resources to invest in robust cybersecurity solutions. This makes it crucial for small businesses to prioritise cybersecurity and find practical solutions that fit their budget and resources.
Jamie Wilson expanded on this, “Cybersecurity challenges for small businesses include protecting data, mitigating risks, and ensuring privacy. Affordable solutions, employee education, and vigilance are key for effective cybersecurity.”
As an industry leader, Cryptoloc has compiled a list of suggested solutions to solve these issues at both an industry & government level; These solutions will be expanded on at the 2023 summit.
Industry Level:
At an industry level, these problems can only be solved with innovative products. Cryptoloc’s product has been prioritised to address both the time and resource constraints faced by small businesses. Their secure communication solutions are designed to be easy to use and affordable, requiring minimal time and expertise to implement. Additionally, Cryptoloc provides ongoing support and training to ensure that small businesses can maintain their cybersecurity measures and stay protected from evolving cyber threats.
Government Level:
At a government level, the focus is on the wrong place. Government focus on making consultants rich and avoiding liability. There are local innovative products that solve the problems. The government’s money and efforts would be better served by getting these to small business.
Jamie Wilson elaborated on what areas need focus to improve cybersecurity services in Australia,”Affordable solutions that solve problems, and government support are key to addressing cybersecurity challenges for small businesses.”
Policy & Legislative Reform:
Like most industries in Australia, there is potential for new policy or legislative reform to aid small businesses in incorporating cybersecurity into their business model.
The only advantage of legislation and government policy in cybersecurity is to create urgency and make business take action. Too many businesses are lax in their implementation of cyber security protection.
When asked what policy or legislation Cryptoloc would like to see implemented for small business, Wilson stated “Stronger industry collaboration and government policies that promote cybersecurity awareness, education, and affordable solutions for all businesses.”
The International Small Business Summit will be held on the 21st & 22nd of September 2023 at Deakin Downtown Tower 2, Level 12, 727 Collins Street, the Docklands, Melbourne Victoria.
